Our Favorite Yacht Charter Locations in Corsica

Bonifacio

On the southernmost tip of Corsica, you’ll find Bonifacio, a small seaside town with narrow cobbled streets and colorful houses. The town of Bonifacio sits on a rugged cliff overlooking the Lavezzi islands, and its dramatic position is reminiscent of a castle from some fabled world.

The old town is full of cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy fresh grilled fish, slow-cooked Veau aux olive (lamb with olives), and the famous Bouillabaisse fish soup.

In the 12th century, the Genoans captured Bonifacio. They massacred its inhabitants, replacing them with Ligurian families who were offered exemptions from tax and customs in Genoan ports as an enticement to live in the town. This is why you’ll find a dialect based on Ligurian Italian still spoken there today.

You can visit the Citadelle de Bonifacio, an impressive fortress that dates back to the 12th century and offers incredible views of its surroundings as well as a glimpse into the rich history of Corsica.

Not to be missed is the King of Aragon’s Stairway, an adventure for young and old hearts alike. The legend goes that it was carved by hand into limestone overnight by the King of Aragon’s troops in 1420. In truth, it was built to access the Saint-Barthélemy well, a freshwater source that is no longer in use and is now closed.

As you descend the 189 irregular steps, you’ll be awestruck by the stunning views of the sea, Sardinia, and the cliffs from a 180-degree angle. At the bottom, you’ll be just a few meters above the sea on a path carved into the cliff, surrounded by turquoise-blue water.

To cool off, head to Plage des Trois Pointes, an impressive beach surrounded by tall limestone cliffs and clear waters perfect for cliff jumping and snorkeling.

Gulf of Porto

The Gulf of Porto is one of Corsica’s most beautiful natural sites, located on the western part of the island. It is known for its turquoise waters, rugged coastline, lush vegetation, and rich biodiversity. All 450 species of marine algae found in the Mediterranean can be seen in the waters surrounding the Gulf of Porto.

The highlight of the Gulf of Porto is the Calanques de Piana. This stunning, jugged red and orange rock formation has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including other sites in the Scandola Nature Reserve. The Calanches are best viewed from the water, so you’ll have a spectacular experience aboard a charter yacht.

Ficajola Beach is a hidden gem in the Gulf of Porto worth exploring. This serene and secluded beach is surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters and towering cliffs, offering breathtaking views. With limited development, Ficajola remains unspoiled, so you’ll be able to enjoy the beauty of nature in its purest form.

This region is also home to a variety of bird species, as well as dolphins and other marine mammals that can be seen as you sail or swim around the gulf on your yacht charter.

Bastia

The city of Bastia is rich in history and possesses stunning architecture, including the Old Port, a historic port that is a must-visit for its picturesque charm.

The Place Saint-Nicolas is a noteworthy spot, featuring beautiful fountains and lively cafes, making it a perfect place to sit back, relax, and watch the city come alive. Bastia regularly hosts festivals and other entertainment events, making it easy to meet locals and other visitors.

You can also check out the Citadelle de Bastia, a historic fort that provides panoramic views of the city and surrounding areas.

Visitors can also explore the Baroque-style Church of St. John the Baptist and wander through the charming Old Town streets. Bastia’s market showcases local produce and crafts, while nearby Cap Corse offers rugged coastal scenery.

Wine tasting and outdoor activities such as hiking and water sports further enrich the Bastia experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Corsica yacht charter cost?

With a wide variety of charter yacht choices and itineraries, there’s an option for every budget. Whether a simple yacht rental, bareboat charter, or crewed yacht charter – Depending on what you wish to have and do on your yacht charter the price varies quite a bit. For an accurate estimate of your Corsica yacht charter cost, you should contact our brokers. They will be able to help you draw up a plan with you, based on your wishes and budget, ensuring your next yacht charter will be perfect.

When is the best time for a Corsica yacht charter?

The best time to charter a yacht in Corsica is typically during the summer months, from April to September with the peak season in July and August. Several factors contribute to this being the optimal season:

  1. During the summer, Corsica experiences warm and sunny weather with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F) on average. This creates ideal conditions for sailing, swimming, and outdoor activities.
  2. The Mediterranean Sea tends to be calmer during the summer months, making for a more comfortable time on the water.
  3. Summer in Corsica is also marked by various cultural festivals, regattas, and events, adding an extra layer of entertainment to your yacht charter vacation.

*Notice the interesting months of March and October, which offer a nice combination of “water warm enough to swim” and discounted out-of-season prices.

When should I book my Corsica yacht charter?

  • Ideally, you’d inquire about a Corsica charter 12 months in advanceWHY? The best yachts are often fully booked long in advance and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked 2 summers ahead for a yacht charter vacation in Corsica or anywhere else in the Mediterranean for that matter. Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter. Additionally, you might find that the yacht you wish to charter, can’t make it to the port where you wish to commence your yacht charter.

Very professional, communicated clearly and planned an amazing trip for us. Louis Lamprell did an amazing job connecting us with the unbridled yacht and crew. It was a trip of a lifetime. Our family highly recommends both DMA yachting and the unbridled charter. Everything was perfection!

Louis was great from beginning to end and walked me through the whole process. He helped me find a great boat that fit within our time and cost preferences. He explained the differences between the different builds and the pros and cons. Once we selected the boat, he explained and walked me through the whole booking process and answered all my questions. Finally, he checked in with me before, during, and after the charter to make sure everything met our expectations. I can’t recommend Louis enough if you are planning a charter, and I will definitely be in touch for our next trip!
